The Formation of the Community
The idea to form Ghana Community was brought by Mr Ben Boadu who lived that time in Vilsbiburg. Mr Boadu who was a member of Ghana Union in Nürnberg called all Ghanaians in and around Landshut to his house in Vilsbiburg and proposed the formation of Ghana Community in Landshut. He further suggested that the Community in Landshut should join that of Nürnberg. Due to some misunderstanding between Mr Boadu and other members of the Community, the former left the scene even before the registration of the Community took place. The idea to join Ghana Union Nürnberg was rejected later on by other members. The Ghana Community Niederbayern e.V. was founded on the 16th May 1992. Achievements
In the year 1997, the Community decided to start projects in Ghana. All the active members that time were given the opportunity to submit suggestions of where the first project should take place. Letters were written to the various towns and villages which were submitted by some members. Positive responds came from Dunkwa-Offin so we decided to begin there with the first Vocational School. The Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Dunkwa-Offin, Rev. Edward Adjei- Djan gave us the old church building to Ghana Community to start the school.
Here in Landshut an announcement was made in the local news paper “Landshut aktuell” for used sewing machines. As many as 78 sewing machines were collected from individuals in Landshut and Passau. The transport cost to Ghana was paid by GTZ in Eschborn. A 5-Member Management Committee was formed in Ghana to manage the affairs of the school. The school was also registered in Ghana as NGO to enable the Community clear imported goods free of charge. Under this condition the 78 sewing machines were cleared from Tema Port.
In September 1997, Dunkwa Tailoring Foundation was started with 20 students (15 girls and 5 boys) and 3 Teachers were employed. A 3-year Vocational training courses was introduced to help the poor youth in the area. The vocational training was free of charge only for the poor people and every students was supplied with Sewing Machine. The opening ceremony was conducted by Rev. Adjei-Djan of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Dunkwa-Offin in the presence of the Elders of the Presbyterian Church in Dunkwa-Offin, Kwame Abrefa-Busia, President of the Ghana Community Niederbayern, Representative of Ghana Education Services and the District Social Welfare Officer
Meanwhile, the constitution of the Ghana Community has to be changed according the wishes of Finance Office to enable the Community to be granted the charity status.

In the year 1999, the No. of Students in Dunkwa Tailoring Foundation have increased to 60. The Old Presbyterian Church could not house all the Students. Moreover, the Church needed the room for private purposes. The Ghana Community had no money to construct a new school block. The President, Mr Kwame Abrefa-Busia, travelled to Ghana to negotiate with the Dunkwa District Council for temporarily accommodation for the school. The responds was prompt. Dunkwa Community Centre was given to us free of charge. The old Management Committee in Ghana was dissolved and immediately replaced by new one under the Chairmanship of Nana Howard Kojo Manu, the Chief of Dunkwa-Offin.
The first students passed out in June 2000 after 3-year vocational training. They sat for the National Vocational Institute Examination. All the 20 Students passed out with Grade II Certificate.
Due to increasing number of students every year, the Community decided to build its own classroom block. An application was sent to the BMZ in Bonn for financial Aid. Luckily, the Community was granted an amount of € 35.420,00 for the construction of the school block. The construction of the school complex started on the 01.04.2002 and ended on the 31.03.2003. In September 2003, the Students move into new premises. The intake of students have been increased to 90 (30 students per class).
In another development, an announcement was made in the “Landshuter Zeitung” for sewing machines to meet the demand in the school. As many as 170 used Sewing Machines were donated in and around Landshut. An application was sent to the GTZ in Eschborn for the transportation cost of the machines to Ghana. The application was granted and a 40 foot Container was shipped to Ghana on the 30.06.2004 free of charge.
